December 14th - 21st 2006
Mahalo Jack & Dorinda,
Our first visit to Kauai and we are already looking forward
to returning next year. Enjoyed your very comfortable,
well-located condo and the evening sunsets on the Beach House
lawn across the road.
Some of our Picks and Pass for future visitors:
- Best Value Meal in Sweet Setting: Kukuis Sanday Brunch at the
Marropt Lihue by the pool. Unlimited champagne and buffet for 2 for
$80 and good singer too.
- Best Romantic Dinner: Naniwa at Sunset on the terrace at
Sheraton Poipu. Looks out on beautiful beach and not crowded -
unlike Beach House. The terrace is actually at Shell's restaurant
but Naniwa will serve you there.
- Best Hawaiian Place: Tomkats in Koloa Village (near Lapperts)
and Polynesian Cafe in Hanalei by Ching Young Village.
- Best Beach Walk: Mahaulepu Beaches - end of Poipu Road and
follow cane roads to ocean. Great walk along cliff tops after
relaxing on beach
- Most Convenient Beach: Baby Beach on Hoona Rd - g left along Lawai Rd
outside Prince Kuhio - take first road right and walk through to beach
about half way down.
- Most Spectacular Drive: Scenery Waimea Canyon on a clean day.
Long walk to falls ( not for over 60's)!!
- Good Luau at Smith's Tropical Paradise. Don't arrive at 4:30 or
you'll have an hour wait till Luau. Get there at 5:15 and leave 10
minutes before end of Hawaiian dance show or you'll be stuck for
another hour.
Avoid Tidepools Restaurant at Hyatt. Bad food, minimal portions,
largely overpriced. Waste of money.
Avoid Ke'ee Beach - North Shore. Takes forever to get there on bad
road. Overcrowded - waste of time!
Overall loved it - weather was great, sunny and cool - nice trade
wind breezes. Glad we stayed on South Shore. We'll be back.

Aloha Jack & Dorinda,
This was our first trip to Kauai and we loved every minute of our
vacation. We had excellent weather. The only rain we got caught
in was watching the Grand Slam golf at Poipu Bay G. C. but it was worth
it to see Tiger Woods, Mike Weir. Jim Furyk and Geoff Ogilvy play
that magnificent course.
Some of the other highlights were:
- waking up early in the morning and watching the sunrise from
our comfortable bed with the breeze blowing in.
- Driving to Waimea Canyon
- Allerton Garden Tour
- Helicopter ride with Kauai Air
- Mahaulepu Beach - be careful swimming there.
- Touring the caves - what an experience crawling through the 4 ft.
high opening into the sink hole. It was very interesting.
- Listening to jazz at the Hyatt and watching the children hula.
- Sunsets across the street and watching the surfers.
- Dinner at the Beach House - try the bananas foster for desert
(one serving would feed 4 easily).
Your home is so well equipped that we didn't want for anything. One
day we would love to return to beautiful Kauai and stay at 211. We
are leaving to return to Vancouver and an early snowfall - ugh!! Back
to reality.

Aloha Jack & Dorinda!
Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful condo with us! We spent a
week here in Kauai on our honeymoon and we don't want to go back to
the "real world". It's our last night here and we're sitting here
going over everything we've done since we got here. Drove up to Waimea,
but it was too foggy to see much, still worth the ride up - loved the
lodge for its great lunches! We drove all the way to the farthest you
can go on the North Shore, spent time at the Kilawea Lighthouse. Who
could forget the EARTHQUAKE!! We were getting ready to go to breakfast
when we felt the shaking. We weren't quite sure what it was (never
felt an earthquake before!). It shook the bed and front door, actually
knocked 2 books off the entertainment center!! It wasn't until we
talked to the waitress at Joe's on the Green that we realized it was
a quake. What a honeymoon memory! Needless to say we watched the news
a lot on Sunday and bought the Garden Isle Newspaper to take home for
our scrapbook.
Some other things we did: Sunset dinner cruise along Napali -
although its not for the folks who get sea sick (never thought I would
- but oops!) The cruise was still worth the money and upset stomach!
We saw a monk seal, sea turtles, naked beach bathers, and lots of
spinner dolphins! We are so happy we got a video camera for our wedding
- we've already taken 2 hours of video and 7 rolls of film!
Went snorkeling at Poipu Beach - great spot! Lots of fish and eels -
easier to snorkel at Poipu than across the street. Great sunsets at
Beach House. Also good spot for sea turtles and monk seals.
We can't get over all the roosters and chickens! They certainly are
everywhere - even if you can't see them! My husband got a t-shirt to
remember the roosters - ha ha!
Ate at Poipu Beach Broiler, Brenneckes, Tropical Burgers and Keoki's
Paradise - all yummy! Played a little golf, well, Brian played, I was
his trusty caddy and driver!
We had such a great time and do not want to go back to PA! One suggestion
(only but we were shocked when we first got here - no A/C.) However, with
everything open and the ceiling fans running it was fine.
Thanks again - I mean - Mahalo!

Aloha and thank you for sharing your condo. We had a lovely week
weather-wise and touring too. We did the sunrise cruise to Napali
which was awesome. We also did the Smith Family Luau which was
exceptionally good. We did a lot of walking and touring. It was
the best time. Thank you for a great place to stay.

Jack & Dorinda:
Thanks again for sharing your condo with us - this is our 2nd trip
staying here! What a wonderful week we've had!!
The hike ascending Sleeping Giant was highlight this time. I would
highly recommend it. Again, thanks for the great spot here!! We
will be back!

Aloha
First time to the Kauai island. Here for our 20th anniversary.
Really liked where the condo is located. Great condo too. The
grounds are spectacular!
The sunny weather cooperated but the trade winds were high along with
high swells. We did see monk seals at Poipu public beach! We
snorkeled and dove and my husband bought a Hawaiian Sling which
he brought home dinner :-) It was good and you can spear just across
the street (not as easy as it sounds, but great fun).
Best thing we did: Inter-Island Air Helicopter to the falls stop -
pricey but worth it! Best eats: Brennecki's crab dinner for expensive
and Brenneckis Deli for lunch was best deal we found for lunch. Also
Green Van has good plate lunch.

Your condo is beautiful and so are the grounds/view - we were (as
another guest worded it) blown away when we opened up the door.
We enjoyed all our breakfasts on the Lanai at sunrise.
Our highlights of Kauai were of course #1 our wedding - we were married
at sunset on the beach just south of the Russian Fort. It was beautiful!
#2 Capt Andy's Sail/Snorkel to the Napali Coast - we love the ocean -
couple of people got sick. It takes a while to get out there from
Port Allen. Only disappointments were we didn't go body surfing. Sounds
like Kalapaki Beach out of Lihue is the place - and our Luau at Resort Quest -
most of it was inside in cramped quarters.
Tip - Use the Ultimate Kauai Book and Kauai Trails - Very Helpful.
Condo is great. How about feeding the Koi? Does the management
allow it?

Aloha, Jack & Dorinda!
I'm back "finally" a little late this year (I really enjoy March and
April) but is there really a bad time to come to Kauai and get lost in
its magic? NO!
Anyway MAHALO for the opportunity to once again stay in your spectacular
island home, everything was outstanding. Weather this trip was !EXCELLENT!
Highly recommend Maha'ulepu Beach, it was like having your own private
beach (very few people), simply BRILLIANT.
Spent the rest of my lazy days at the beach across the way and down by
the pool just allowing 10 of the best days of 2006 drift away, doesn't
sound like much but it has sure been GREAT!!
MAHALO again Jack and Dorinda for all you do.

Dear Jack & Dorinda,
We have been reading some of your tenants comments and one in
particular is soooo true! The bed is awesome! My boyfriend said
"Oh they are all honeymooners so they don't care", but we are not
on our honeymoon and we LOVE the bed. We love the trade winds at night.
Some must do's for others that follow are:
-
Hideaway Beach at Princeville
- Capt Andys Snorkel/Sunset dinner sail!!
- Princeville Hotel
Thank you so much.

Aloha, Jack & Dorinda!
My new husband and I knew instantly when we set foot on Prince
Kuhio property that we would have an amazing honeymoon in your
condo! We loved looking at all the views - the mountains, the
ocean, and the pool surrounded by tropical plants and flowers!
We woke up the first morning laughing as we heard roosters
alerting us that it was morning ... we don't have this luxury
in downtown Chicago! The highlights of our trip include:
* Island Helicopters Tour - a must do! We did this one our first
day here to pick out places we wanted to see by land.
* Captain Andy's Napali Sunset Dinner Cruise - We were able to see
the Napali coastline up close and personal and a beautiful sunset!
The boat was on the smaller side so we went flying when big waves
hit. I wouldn't recommend it for those prone to motion sickness!
* Surf to Sunset Luau at the Sheraton Resort - What a fun night!
The Sheraton is just up the road on Poipu Rd. We were greeted with
a lei and had good appetizers, drinks, and a feast! The show was
informative and entertaining. The best part was that it was outside
right along Poipu Beach - we got some amazing sunset pictures!
We bought most of our food at Safeway and a Farmer's Market. We found
this condo to have every amenity that we could possibly need -
Mahalo!! We also loved the pool! It was very refreshing and a nice
way to spend a lazy afternoon reading a book and doing a crossword
puzzle.
Nothing beats the beautiful island of Kauai! We spent a day on
Oahu checking out Pearl Harbor - which is a must do! We are
already planning out when we can get back to Kauai and Prince
Kuhio for another amazing vacation!
Mahalo, Jack & Dorinda, for all of your hospitality! Our honeymoon
will be looked back upon with nothing but amazing memories!

Aloha Jack & Dorinda!
I must be honest and say that I wasn't quite sure what to expect.
Me and my new husband just spent 5 nights of our honeymoon in Oau
and I was sad to leave, but once I set foot in your lovely place, I
was at ease and I felt right at home. You have made such a nice
place and as soon as I thought of something I needed and went to
look for it, there it was!! You seem to have thought of every
little thing your guests might need or want and have provided it
graciously. The first thing I did was put on your Hawaiian Music
CD and that set the tone for the rest of the stay. I won't go
into all of our favorites because they are very similar to
previous entries, but I must mention one!! Laying in bed each
night and morning with the door open and the cool breeze coming in
is something that will stick in my mind as a favorite memory, one
that was made on my honeymoon. My husband and I are both teachers
in Texas, so we have every summer off and do plan to come back often.
I am even going to recommend this to my parents who have never been to
Hawaii. Thank you so much for sharing this great piece of paradise
with us - and now for my husband, Austin - - -
I'll make this quick, thanks so much for having everything here for
us. My favorite place we went, I would have to say, is Tunnels
Beach. It was very relaxing and a good place to swim and snorkel. I
saw many fish and even a leopard eel, along with a few turtles
Definitely go there if you want to snorkel! Food at the Brick Oven
was good too! Shop at Big Save, they have good products. We
cooked out here one night and ate breakfast here every day too.
Thanks Ya'll,

Aloha Dorinda and Jack!
To use the local vernacular: Yo' place mo' bettah!! We walked around
the Sheraton and Hyatt and drove around Princeville ... yo' place
"still" mo/ bettah. For our tastes and desires, this lovely condo
had it all ... beautiful views, tasteful and comfortable furnishings,
fully equipped kitchen, many extras (I was planning to buy a cheap
cooler at Walmart since we do a lot of picnic lunches and not only
discovered the one in the closet but ice packs in the freezer as
well - thanks!). Prince Kuhio is also strategically situated near
beaches (one need go no further than "Beach House Beach" for great
snorkeling ... we checked out other places and found this equal or
better), as well as shopping and restaurants (or food stands).
Friends had alerted us to "Ultimate Kauai" ... so very helpful, as
well as all your guests' suggestions. How else would we have
found Tropical Taco or Hameua's Saimin Stand? ... wonderful
eating experiences. We enjoyed the banana-macadamia nut pancakes
at Joes on the Green on a gorgeous Sunday morning... but the budget-minded
should be apprised that Sunday morning is the only time with no
early bird special prices. Speaking of Sunday morning, any folks
looking for Christ-centered worship and teaching will find Kauai Christian
Fellowship on Ala Kinoiki Rd a real blessing.
After reading some guests' comments about the roasters, we were
grateful that all the roosters, hens, and chicks had gone up to
Waimea Canyon for summer vacation - leaving only cooing doves.
After 20 years of the Navy sending us everywhere but Hawaii and then
30 more years of dreaming about Hawaii ... this celebration of 50
years of a wonderfully blessed marriage here in Kauai was a dream
come true and more.
We praise the Lord for the beauty of his creation: the profusion of flowers
and flowering trees, the green ridges and canyons, the amazing variety
of tropical fish!!
And to you, Dorinda & Jack, mahalo, mahalo!! for sharing your
lovely home. Oh, how we would love to return!

Aloha Jack & Dorinda!
We had a wonderful visit in your condo ~ you've done an incredible
job keeping everything updated ~ the tile, furniture, artwork,
light fixtures, fans, etc. And what can we say about the bed!?
It's so comfortable :-) We also really appreciated all of the little
extras you provided ~ we couldn't think of anything that we needed
that we didn't find right away.
I already had the 2nd edition of The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook, but
after seeing your new one, I had to buy the 5th Edition ~ lots of
changes! This is our 4th visit to Kauai ~ its definitely our favorite
island.
Since eating is always one of our favorite things about vacation :-)
we were happy to find Beach House (that view!!), Kalaheo Cafe &
Coffee Company (for lattes & cinnamon rolls or cinnamon knuckles on
our way to Waimea Canyon), & Jo-Jo's Clubhouse for shave ice on our way
back from the canyon (we had the rainbow w/mac nut ice cream on the bottom
~ yum!)
But our greatest find, thanks to you & your previous guests, was the
Maha'ulepu coastline and beach ~ the BEST for exploring, photographing,
and making memories! What an amazing, beautiful place. Next to the
Napali Coast, we found it to be one of the most special places on Kauai.
Thank you again for everything ~ We're off to the North Shore for 5
more nights, and then back to Boulder. Maybe someday we'll get to
meet you there! :-)

Aloha Guests!
We have returned to this wonderful home away from home!
We are always delighted to read your comments and try
to experience your trip. We are so lucky to have had
such wonderful guests to share our home.
This time we replaced all the living room furniture.
We hope you like it! We also replaced the TV, DVD player,
stereo, a few kitchen items and updated the wireless router.
Oh and we added a new ceiling fan with light in the bedroom.
We did have time to visit with some friends and enjoy
the weather, water and beaches out front.
Mahalo nui loa for your kindness. Every time we return home
we feel the aloha spirit of all our guests. Please return soon!

April 24 - April 30, 2006
Aloha
We've hiked all over, eaten all kinds of places recommended in the "Ultimate
Travel Book" which is a wonderful guide. Our suggestions -
- Buy some fresh fish at Fish Express in Lihue and grill
- Eat once at Beach House
- Take the NaPali Explorer catamaran from Hanalie along the coast
(small boat - 16 people - great naration - faster to the real coast of
Na Pali)
- Walk the grounds of the Hyatt Regency in day time and go for jazz in
the Stevens Library from 8-11 certain nights for the price of a drink or
smoothie (chocolate was good!)
- Go see the Hindu Temple at their monastery being built up the Waimea
River (call for tour times) and view their gorgeous land and interesting
stories - even though your not hindu most likely, we're not - (see
ultimate Travel Guide).
- Take a walk over to Whalers Cove - easy stroll
Thank you so much for a comfortable place. We'd recommend it in a
minute. Love the quietness of it and ease of getting in and out.
Beaches here are as good as any we've seen. The most beautiful is
Mahaulepu at the end of the dirt road past the Hyatt Regency. Go
there for sure.
Thanks Jack & dorinda. Back to Colorado.

Aloha Friends,
What a paradise we found on Kauai. Golfed Wailua, snorkeled Poipu
and all over Hanalei, Ziplined Kipu Falls, toured the Botanical
Gardens , hied Waimea Canyon, dinner at Tomkats and the Beach House.
How happy we were to come home every night to our lovely condo. Thank
you, Jack and Dorinda, for sharing your home with us! We hope to

Jack & Dorinda and anyone else who will ponder my note.
The 18 hours too and from on the jet ws worth the relaxation.
All the ocean life and vegatation was a big change from 20
degrees below at times and deep snow, which we unfortunately have
to return to. Very comfortable location. Being away from swimable
beaches kept the younger kids away. Sept great. Your home was
perfect and we will be back!

Aloha Jack & Dorinda,
Thank you for letting us stay in your condo. We find Kauai beautiful.
Would love to rent again from you.

going. Place was very clean.

Aloha Jack & Dorinda!
Words fail us in so many ways but we'll do our best here.
Your condo, of course, is lovely and has possibly the most
comfortable bed EVER! My memories of falling asleep to the
tropical breezes and surf will keep me happy for a long
time.
Kyle and I came to Kauai to escape the cold and snow and hectic
schedules of Washington DC. Suffice it to say - mission accomplished!
Not setting an alarm and waking up with the sun and ocean and -
let's not forget - roosters was worth the trip. The beautiful
weather, luscious beaches and friendly people only made this time
more memorable.
My highlights (and then I'll let Kyle talk)
-
Tropical Taco on the North Shore. Get the fish taco grilled.
Oh. my. God.
- Hanalei mixed plate for Kulah pork & cabbage
- Unbelivable fresh pinapple from the fruit cart in Hanalei.
hmmm... I'm seeing a pattern.
Beautiful hikes using the "Ultimate Guide" (Be sure to get the
5th edition!) and our favorite find -> Baby Beach right around
the corner.
Okay, Kyle's turn -
Aloha!
This was my first time to the islands, and I can't imagine a better
place to stay! We loved being able to enjoy fresh fruits and coffee
for breakfast on the lanai. We'll never buy canned pineapple again!
And those Rhumbathons (sp)!
It was wonderful to find healthy organic food alternatives in the
grocery stores. We snagged some fresh shrimp at Fish Express. Other
culinary indulges included Keoki's Paradise (Herb-crusted) ono and
some incredible crab cake appetizers.
A lovely pair of geckos kept us company in the evenings - we named
one of them "Bob".
Don't miss the hikes around the canyon. Or whale spotting from Kiluea
Lighthouse. The natural beautyh of this island leaves us humbled and
inspired, and rested beyond our fondest dreams.
On this, our last day, we shall indulge ourselves at Anara Spa, then
to a fine dinner at the Beach House before heding off to the chilly
North East. We'll be back next year for a honeymoon!

Dear Jack and Dorinda,
Thank you for allowing us to stay in your lovely condo.
We so enjoyed all the comforts you provided. We looked
and looked at hotels on Kauai and are so glad we picked your
condo instead. Lots of space to relax, kitchen and all made
it much nicer and much more relaxed for us. We had a very
special vacation and look forward to a return trip one day.
